Assam Black Tea
Tasting Notes Here’s a signature summer tea from one of the finest estates in Assam in the Northeastern region of India. This brisk, earthy tea has an exceptionally well-balanced sweet and sour flavour profile that never disappoints. The leaves are tightly-rolled, with blackish brown hues, and a few olive green and brown flakes. The smooth yet brisk liquor has a rich mouthfeel and a smooth texture. It carries notes of wood that are evident in the middle, made buoyant by the hint of astringency, while a distant note of waxy flower sails throughout.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • Is Black Tea good for health?
Black Tea has specific antioxidants, including catechins and polyphenols, which have been linked to reduce the risk of certain type of cancers. Increased evidence shows that these antioxidants in black tea have been known to reduce atherosclerosis in women (clogged arteries) in women.
  • How to brew a good cup of Black Tea?
In order to brew a good cup of black tea, take some oxygen-rich, fresh water in a saucepan and bring it to a boil. For a single cup of black tea, take 1 teaspoon (2 grams) of black tea in a teapot. Pour the freshly boiled 180-200 ml of water over the leaves in the teapot. Cover and let it steep for 3-5 minutes according to your taste preference (longer the steeping time, stronger is the tea). Add in Milk and sugar as per your taste and liking!
  • Which harvest teas do you use in your blends?
All our premium blends are made of a variety of garden-fresh, superior quality teas sourced from their native region. We procure all our teas in their respective prime-harvest seasons, which differ according to the tea type, place of origin, season etc. Procuring these teas during their prime harvest periods means that we get the best quality teas which have an enhanced flavor, character, and freshness.
  • Where do you source your teas from?
We source our teas from over 150 renowned tea plantations and small individual farms in India. Within the country, we procure from 5 popular tea-producing regions, namely : Darjeeling, Assam, Nilgiri, Kangra, and Sikkim.
  • How are your teas packed?
After sourcing our teas directly from plantations within hours of harvest, we bring them to our state-of-the-art tea facility in New Delhi, India. The teas then go through rigorous rounds of cleaning, sorting, quality testing to remove any impurities/dust/foreign particles. Teas then pass through a final 10+ quality check points for leaf size, aroma, liquor, flavors etc. They are then vacuum-packaged in opaque aluminium-lined bags using sophisticated machinery. These vacuum-bags are then stored in a dehumidified, temperatuere-controlled warehouse which ensures that the teas remain garden-fresh and maintain their character. Upon recieving a consumer's order, we further pack the required quantity of tea in smaller vacuum-sealed packs which are boxed in the retail boxes and then sent over to our own delivery centres located in various parts of the world.

Excellent teas!

I've been buying teas directly from Vahdam for a couple of years now, and just love their teas and their service. The teas arrive extraordinarily quickly all the way from India, very firmly wrapped up. The selections are broad, and it has been fun to try out a variety of types to find the ones I like most.

excellent Assam and Masala teas

This is high quality tea, vacuum packed and hence very fresh even almost 1 year after packing date. I love Assam tea and enjoy both the Daily Assam (leaf) and the Applause Assam CTC tea. Both are full bodies Assams, especially the CTC. The Cardamom Masala Chai also met my expectations for a tasty masala chai.
I am very satisfied both with the tea and also with delivery. This, my first purchase was delivered within a day or two to Taiwan. I got a phone call from FedEx customs agent to scan and email my signature for delegation of customs clearance. Zero Taiwan import duties apply on any importation for less than about $100US, so the package passed Taiwan customs duty free the next day, and was delivered to my door the following day.

I highly recommend Vahdam for fresh tasting, full bodied Assam Teas and Masala Teas and flawless execution of international shipping.

Good daily driver

It’s not super-strong either in taste or caffeine, but it does have a malty full body. At the very end it turns almost a bit watery, but not in a (too) displeasing way – depending on what you’re after it might be either a positive or negative characteristic of this tea.

Great all-rounder and a daily driver, but if you’re looking for something special, for the same money you can get nicer picks of Assam in this shop.

I have given several Assams on this website a mark of 4 (out of 5) and personally I would pick any of those over this one, but solely because most of the time I’m looking for something special in an Assam.

But if you’re looking looking for a daily driver, this is a very fine choice and earns 4 points as fulfilling that function.
